@Integralmathyt educates me on @pzmyers’ & #TheAtheistExperience’s #AtheismPlus #feminism bullshit

(And courtesy of Justin Vacula). As I told IM, I’ve stayed largely ignorant of all the “feminist” goings on in the atheist community. Mostly this is because I simply haven’t had the time to keep up on it, but also because it feels largely a waste of time all by its own self and, as I’d tweeted about Jen McCreight’s founding of the Atheism+ “movement”, it largely feels to me like a teacup tornado.

It may last. Even for a couple of years. Maybe a touch longer. But when it gets down to it, it has zero effect on the fact of atheism and those who are atheists.

For those who wonder why #atheists are so in-your-face…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on March 16, 2012 by Anton A. Hill

I happened upon this on the A-News Discussion page on Facebook and, while it only applies to Muslim atheism and apostasy, it’s indicative of the historic treatment of all atheists. And realistically, our collective historic treatment only shifted from one of serious death threats and actual executions at the hands of Christians to not-so serious death threats and no executions within the last 150 years or so.

My conversation with #RobynHill on 3/9/12

Before you ask, no, Robyn and I are not related. Robyn happened onto a post about Mike Lee.

She made the following comment:

“ha ha, Mike Lee makes athesists look ridiculous in the eyes of anyone who knows a thing about logic. Move away from Ad Hominem arguing Lee.”

I responded with this:

“Hey Robyn,

“Thanks for dropping by. Funny you say that as I’d say the exact same thing about any religious person and logic. What, specifically, makes you say that? I don’t actually remember seeing Mike argue anything. Are you saying he’s used ad hominems? if so, when?”

Then I went to her Facebook page, by the link to which she’d provided, and started a conversation. Here is that conversation. My text in italics. Hers in bold. And a few links, pics, and vids to keep your attention ’cause FUCK is this epic!

(Unrelated side note: from now on, the “on X” dates of those conversations won’t necessarily reflect the literal date on which they occurred or ended, but rather more likely the date on which I get around to posting them. Carry on.)

Hi Robyn,

Thanks for your comment. I just left my reply on AtheistAsshole.com.

Best,

Anton.

Sorry, but Mike Lee just uses bad tactics to argue his cause. He needs to take a few logic and debate classes. Read more »

Thank you, #somethingdiffereable, for your de-conversion story!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 7, 2011 by Anton A. Hill

My sincerest apologies to somethingdiffereable, who sent me this a long time ago, but I never got around to posting it. His story’s below and under De-Conversion Stories.

“Well, like most people I was systematically brainwashed into religion at an early age! I never believed in santa claus (ever) and found the god-thing suspect right from the get-go! I was raised roman catholic and when my folks sent me to church on sundays, I skipped along with my little band of deciples. I spent the money on candy and whatnot.

“By the time I got to Jr. Highschool I began to examine the religious mumbo-jumbo a little more critically after discovering Darwin. I never really cared for Marx but I thought he was on to something with the religion being the opiate of the masses statement. I was at that time an agnostic.

“By the time I hit high school and discovered girls, drugs, liquor and all that fun stuff. I felt religion of any kind was not consistant with enjoyment and became a full fledged Atheist.

“Early into adulthood I was introduced to our wonderful legal system due to liquor and drug usage and was subsequently forced to attend AA. This didn’t last long however because I discovered seperation of church and state was in the first amendment and told the judge where to put it. That’s when I was fully converted to militant Atheism and have been ever since. I was saved! That’s what I tell all the fundies. I am saved from a life of religious enslavement!”
